The DF-12 (Dongfeng-12) is a short-range ballistic missile (SRBM) developed by the Chinese defense industry. Here's a breakdown of its key features and history:

• Design and Development: Initially designated as M20 for export, the DF-12's design is thought to be based on the Russian Iskander-E tactical missile system. It was first revealed to the public at the IDEX defense exhibition in the United Arab Emirates in February 2013.
• Service: The missile entered service with the People's Liberation Army (PLA) in August 2013. The change in designation from M20 to DF-12 signifies its deployment with China's Second Artillery Corps, responsible for missiles and nuclear weapons.
• Type: It's a road-mobile, solid-fueled missile, meaning it can be transported and launched from a mobile platform and uses solid propellant.
• Range: While its official range is stated to be between 100 and 280 km, some sources suggest its actual range could extend up to 400 km or even more for domestic variants.
• Guidance System: The DF-12 employs inertial navigation and Global Positioning System (GPS) guidance. It's reported to have a Circular Error Probable (CEP) of 30m, although other reports list it at 50m, which is a measure of its accuracy.
