The IBM 3270 PC, released in October 1983 and discontinued in 1987, was a personal computer developed by IBM. It was designed to function both as a standalone computer and as a terminal to connect to an IBM mainframe.
Key Features and Capabilities:

• Dual Functionality: The 3270 PC could emulate the behavior of an IBM 3270 terminal, allowing users to interact with mainframe applications. It could also function as a standalone IBM PC XT, running PC DOS.
• Concurrent Sessions: It could operate up to seven concurrent sessions:
• Four 3270-type sessions (for mainframe interaction).
• One PC DOS session (for running PC applications).
• Two local notepad sessions.
• Display: The 3270 PC used a 14-inch color monitor (model 5272) or a monochrome MDA monitor. It featured a display resolution of 720x350.
• Keyboard: It utilized a specialized 122-key 3270 keyboard (5271 Keyboard Element), which was quite heavy (9.3 pounds). A further expansion card intercepted scancodes from the keyboard.
• Hardware: Based on the IBM PC XT hardware, it included additional components for 3270 emulation.
• Operating System: It ran the 3270-PC Control Program with PC DOS 2.0 or 2.1. Later versions used the IBM 3270 Workstation Program with PC DOS 3.3.
• Connectivity: The 3270 PC connected to IBM mainframe systems, typically System/370 processors, via a 3274 controller or a Display/Printer Adapter using coaxial cables. It supported various connection environments, including SNA and non-SNA local channels, SDLC remote, and BSC remote.

• Model 2: 256KB RAM (non-expandable), single floppy drive.
• Model 4: Expandable memory, second floppy drive, parallel port.
• Model 6: Replaced one floppy drive with a 10 MB hard disk.

• 3270-PC Control Program: Provided the core functionality for 3270 emulation and session management.
• IBM PC DOS 2.0 or 2.1: Allowed the computer to run standard PC applications.
• 3270 PC File Transfer Program: Enabled file transfer between the PC and the host system.
• IBM 3270 Workstation Program: A later software release that supported both XT and AT models, offering enhanced features and supporting more concurrent DOS sessions.
