The HQ-19 (Hongqi-19, meaning "Red Banner/Flag-19") is a Chinese anti-ballistic missile (ABM) and anti-satellite weapon (ASAT) system. It is considered a new-generation surface-to-air missile system, designed to intercept ballistic missile targets.

Here's a breakdown of its key features and capabilities:

• Purpose: Primarily designed to intercept medium-range ballistic missiles, hypersonic glide vehicles and engage satellites. It can target missiles in their midcourse and terminal phases.
• Comparable Systems: Often compared to the US THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) and SM-3 missile systems.
• Technology:
• Employs "hit-to-kill" technology, using kinetic energy from direct impact to destroy targets rather than an explosive warhead.
• Features an infrared seeker with side windows to reduce atmospheric interference and improve targeting accuracy at high altitudes.
• Powered by a two-stage, dual-pulsed solid rocket engine.
• Type 610A radar with a detection range up to 4,000 km.
