2. 역사

57번가 역은 IND 6번로선의 열차 수송 능력을 확장하기 위한 크리스티 스트리트 연결선의 일환으로 건설되었다. 1962년에 6번로 선 연장 계획의 일환으로 발표되었으며, 1968년 7월 1일에 개통되었다.

57번가 역은 1962년에 6번로 선 연장 계획의 일환으로 발표되었다.[62] 1968년 7월 1일, 크리스티 스트리트 연결선의 일부로 그랜드 스트리트 역과 함께 개통되었다.[65] 개통식에는 로버트 W. 스위트 부시장, 윌리엄 J. 로넌 MTA 회장 등 주요 인사들이 참석했다.[64]

개통 당시 57번가 역은 출퇴근 시간에는 B선, 그 외 시간에는 KK선(이후 K선으로 변경되었다가 1976년 폐지[67][68])의 종착역이었다.[65][66][62][64] 1978년부터 1990년까지는 JFK 익스프레스 서비스가 이 역을 경유하여 존 F. 케네디 국제공항까지 운행되었다.[69][70][71][72]

2015-2019 MTA 자본 계획에 따라, 57번가 역은 전면적인 개보수를 거쳤다. 2018년 7월 9일부터 12월 19일까지 개보수 공사를 위해 폐쇄되었다가 재개장했으며,[87] 휴대폰 서비스, Wi-Fi, USB 충전소, 대화형 서비스 알림 및 지도 등이 포함되었다.[80][81]

2021년, 인근 초고층 빌딩 건설 계획의 일환으로, 57번가 역에 2기의 엘리베이터가 설치될 예정이다. 이는 1990년 미국 장애인법을 준수하기 위한 목적이다.[28]

2023년 8월 28일부터 2024년 4월 1일까지, F 열차는 63번가 터널 보수 공사로 인해 53번가 터널을 경유하여 운행했으며, M 열차는 57번가 역을 임시 종착역으로 사용했다.[33][34] 2023년에는 승객 안전을 위해 승강장 중앙에 짧은 장벽이 설치되었다.[35]

57번가 역은 섬식 승강장 1개와 선로 2개를 갖춘 지하역이다.[88] 승강장 길이는 약 187.45m, 폭은 약 7.32m이다.[88] 이 역은 55번가에서 58번가까지 뻗어 있다. 약 14.63m 너비의 대합실에서 승강장으로 이어지는 6개의 계단이 있다.[89] 역 벽은 흰색 타일로 마감되어 있으며, "57th St"라는 글자가 새겨져 있다.[89] 승강장은 지하 약 약 10.67m 아래에 있다.[64]

승강장 남쪽 끝에는 사용하지 않는 탑과 승무원 구역이 있다.[91] 승강장 천장에는 "Next Train(다음 열차)" 표시등이 걸려 있는데, 이는 20년 전 이 역이 종착역이었을 때부터 있었다.[90]

역 강화계획의 일환으로 진행된 보수 공사 이후, 모든 출입구 계단 주위에 유리 장벽 울타리, 다음 열차 도착 시간을 알려주는 카운트다운 시계, 디지털 길 찾기 지도가 설치되었다. 56번가 남쪽 모퉁이에 있는 두 개의 출입구에는 캐노피도 설치되었다.[95]
