3. 사고 기체

사고 당시 운항 중이던 항공기는 에어버스 A320-211 기종(등록번호: D-AIPX, 1990년 제조, 제조번호: 147)으로, 1991년 에어버스사로부터 저먼윙스의 모회사인 독일 루프트한자 항공에 신조기로 인도되었다.^[1] 2003년 저먼윙스로 이관되었다가 2004년 루프트한자로 돌아왔으며, 2014년 1월 31일 다시 저먼윙스에서 사용하기 위해 재양도되었다.^[172]

4. 승객과 승무원

사고기에는 승객 144명과 승무원 6명, 총 150명이 탑승하고 있었다.^[350] 탑승객 대부분은 독일인과 스페인인이었으며, 이 외에도 아르헨티나, 영국, 미국, 일본 등 18개국 국적의 사람들이 희생되었다.^[350] 이중 국적을 가진 탑승객들이 있어 정확한 집계에 혼란이 있었다.^[314]

탑승객 중에는 교환 유학을 마치고 귀국하던 독일 요제프 쾨니히 고등학교(독일어판) 학생 16명과 교사 2명이 포함되어 있었다.^[175] 대한민국 정부는 한국인 탑승객 여부를 확인하기 위한 안전 확인 조사를 실시했다.^[174]

프랑스 항공사고조사위원회(BEA)와 독일 항공사고조사부(BFU)가 공동으로 사고 조사를 진행했으며, FBI도 조사에 참여했다.^[327][328] BEA는 사고 발생 몇 시간 후, 에어버스와 CFM 인터내셔널 대표와 함께 조사관 7명을 현장에 파견했다. 조사팀은 손상되었지만 작동 가능한 조종실 음성 녹음 장치(CVR)와 비행 기록 장치(FDR)를 회수하여 분석했고, 피해자 가족과 비교할 DNA 샘플 150개를 현장에서 채취했다.^{[329][330][331][332][333][334][335][336][337]}

이 사고로 인해 항공 안전 규정이 강화되었다. 특히 조종실에 2명 이상의 승무원이 항상 있어야 한다는 '2인 규칙'이 도입되었다.^{[360][361][362][363]} 조종사 정신 건강 관리의 중요성이 강조되었으며, 관련 평가 및 검진 기록 확인 절차가 강화되었다.^[375]

루프트한자는 희생자 유족들에게 보상금을 지급하고, 항공 안전 및 조종사 정신 건강 관리 시스템 개선을 약속했다.^{[364][365][366]} 초기 배상금으로 희생자당 50000USD를 지급했고, 독일인 희생자 가족에게는 추가로 27000USD와 직계 가족에게 10000EUR를 지급했다.^{[364][365][366]} 그러나 일부 유족들은 보상금 액수에 불만을 품고 소송을 제기하기도 했다.^[369][370]

사고 후 저먼윙스는 홈페이지와 소셜 미디어를 그레이스케일 이미지로 바꾸었고,^[359] 루프트한자, 스위스 국제항공, 오스트리아 항공도 동참했다. 저먼윙스는 사고 항공편 번호를 변경했다.^[359]

프랑스 내무부 장관 베르나르 카즈뇌브는 생존자 수색 가능성이 낮다고 발표했고,^[121] 프랑수아 올랑드 대통령은 생존자가 없을 것이라는 견해를 밝혔다.^[230] 마뉘엘 발스 총리는 장관급 태스크포스를 구성했다.^[122] 독일 외무부 장관 프랑크-발터 슈타인마이어는 추락 현장을 "공포의 현장"이라고 묘사했다.^[122] 앙겔라 메르켈 총리는 사고 다음 날 현장을 방문할 것을 표명했다.^[235]

• 로열 에어 마로코 630편 추락 사고 - 1994년 8월 21일, 로열 에어 마로코의 ATR 42기가 아틀라스 산맥에 추락했다. 보이스 레코더에 남은 기록으로 기장의 고의 추락으로 판명되었다. 사망자 중에는 쿠웨이트의 왕자와 그의 아내도 포함되어 있었다.
