3. 역사

믹서(Mixer)는 2016년 1월 5일 Beam이라는 이름으로 출시되었다.^[10] 2016년 5월, Beam은 TechCrunch Disrupt 컨퍼런스에서 Startup Battlefield 경쟁에서 우승했다.^[11][12]

2016년 8월 11일, Beam은 마이크로소프트(Microsoft)에 인수되어 Xbox 부서에 통합되었다.^[13][14][10] 2016년 10월 26일, 마이크로소프트는 Beam이 Windows 10에 통합될 것이라고 발표했다.^[15] Beam 방송은 2017년 3월 소프트웨어 업데이트에서 Xbox One에도 통합되었다.^[16]

2017년 5월 25일, 마이크로소프트는 Beam이 이전 이름을 전 세계적으로 사용할 수 없어 Mixer로 이름을 변경했다고 발표했다.^[17] 이와 함께 사용자가 채널에서 최대 3개의 다른 스트림을 동시에 공동 호스팅할 수 있는 기능, 컴패니언 모바일 앱 Mixer Create, 그리고 Xbox One 대시보드 내에서 최상위 수준으로 통합되어 새로운 탭에서 Mixer 스트림을 큐레이션하는 기능이 도입되었다.^[18]

2019년 7월 31일, 비디오 게임 스트리머 닌자는 8월 1일부터 트위치에서 Mixer로 전적으로 이동할 것이라고 발표했다.^[19][20][21] 닌자의 아내이자 매니저인 제시카 블레빈스는 트위치와의 계약이 게임 외적인 "브랜드 성장" 능력을 방해했고, 트위치 커뮤니티의 "유해함"으로 인해 스트리밍에 대한 그의 관심이 약해졌다고 말했다.^[22] 2019년 10월에는 스트리머 Shroud도 Mixer와 독점 계약을 체결했다.^[26]

Streamlabs와 Newzoo의 보고서에 따르면, 2019년 3분기에 Mixer는 서비스에서 스트리밍되는 고유 콘텐츠 시간의 분기별 증가율이 188%였지만, 동시 시청자 비율은 11.7% 감소했다.^[23] 2019년 10월, Mixer의 창립자 Boehm과 Salsamendi는 마이크로소프트를 떠났다.^[24][25]

2020년 6월 22일, 마이크로소프트는 시장 점유율이 낮고 경쟁 서비스에 비해 확장할 수 없다는 점을 들어 2020년 7월 22일에 Mixer를 종료한다고 발표했다. xCloud 클라우드 게임 서비스의 측면에서 페이스북(Facebook, Inc.)(현재 Meta Platforms, Inc.)과 협력하기로 합의한 일부로, Mixer는 운영을 중단한 후 사용자를 Facebook Gaming 서비스로 리디렉션할 예정이며, 일부 제휴 스트리머는 해당되는 경우 동등한 Facebook Gaming 프로그램에 참여할 기회를 제공했다. 미결제 구독 및 Embers는 Microsoft Store 크레딧으로 전환되었다.^[28] Mixer의 직원은 Microsoft Teams 부서로 이전되었다.^[28]
