The RPK-74 (РПК-74) is a Soviet light machine gun that was introduced in 1974 alongside the AK-74 assault rifle. It is chambered for the 5.45×39mm intermediate cartridge. Derived from the AK-74, the RPK-74 features several modifications:

• Longer and heavier chrome-plated barrel: This enhances durability and performance.
• New gas block: The gas channel is positioned at a 90° angle to the bore axis.
• Folding bipod: Provides stability during firing.
• Different front sight tower: The muzzle is threaded for a flash suppressor or blank-firing device.
• Ammunition: It is fed from a box magazine, and can use 45 or 30 round magazines.

There are a few variants of the RPK-74:

• RPK-74: The original model, featuring a fixed wooden stock.
• RPKS-74: Designed for compactness, this variant has a wooden stock that folds to the left.
• RPK-74M: An improved model with black plastic furniture replacing the wooden components.
• RPK-74N: This variant includes a side mount on the receiver for optical sights.

The RPK-74M can deliver fire in short bursts (up to 5 shots), long bursts (up to 15 shots) or continuously. It has a rear sight leaf that provides firing to 1,000 m and has a windage adjustment mechanism.
