2018년 7월 20일, 넷플릭스는 숀다 라임스가 줄리아 퀸의 베스트셀러 소설 《브리저튼》 시리즈를 각색하여 드라마를 제작하고, 크리스 반 두센이 쇼 러너로 참여한다고 발표했다.[17] 퀸은 《탬론 홀 쇼》에서 라임스가 자신의 소설을 각색하는 데 관심이 있다는 소식을 듣고 "의자에서 떨어질 뻔했다"고 말하며, 제안에 즉시 동의했다고 밝혔다.[18]
