2. 역사

새매미시 강 계곡은 워싱턴 호수에서 이사콰 크릭까지 이어지며, 원래 새매미시족(sc̓ababš|새매미시족lut)[5]이라는 해안 살리시족 집단이 거주했다. 1850년경에는 약 80~200명 정도였다.[6][7] 이들은 새매미시 강 입구(현재 보셀과 켄모어 사이)에 라는 주요 겨울 마을을 가지고 있었다.[7][8] 새매미시족은 정착민들의 이주에 저항했지만, 1855-1856년 퓨젯 사운드 전쟁 이후 포트 키츠섮로 강제 이주되었다.[6][9] 일부는 이 지역에 남아 노동자와 농부로 일했지만, 마을은 파괴되었다.[10]

6. 문화

7. 1. 대중교통

킹 카운티 메트로는 보셀을 인근 도시로 연결하는 노선과 북 시애틀 및 워싱턴 대학교 본 캠퍼스로 가는 급행 노선을 운영한다. 사운드 트랜짓 익스프레스는 주도 522번을 경유하여 보셀에서 시애틀의 루즈벨트역으로, 그리고 주간고속도로 405번을 따라 린우드와 벨뷰 시내로 가는 급행 노선을 운영한다.[237] 커뮤니티 트랜짓은 주로 스노호미시 카운티를 운행하며, 2019년에 개통된 주도 527번의 버스 급행 수송 노선인 스위프트 그린 라인의 종착역인 캐년 파크 환승 주차장에서 연결된다.[238] 이 기관의 노선은 보셀을 린우드, 밀 크릭 및 에버렛으로 연결한다.[239]

사운드 트랜짓 3 프로그램의 일환으로, 2027년까지 보셀을 통과하는 2개의 스트라이드 버스 급행 수송 노선이 건설될 예정이다. S2 노선은 린우드와 벨뷰 사이의 주간고속도로 405번을 따라 워싱턴 대학교 보셀 캠퍼스와 캐년 파크에 정차하며, 2026년에 개통될 주도 522번의 S3 노선은 쇼어라인의 쇼어라인 사우스/148번가역과 보셀 사이에서 보셀 시내와 워싱턴 대학교 보셀 캠퍼스에 정차한다.[241]

8. 교육

노스쇼어 교육구는 킹 카운티와 스노호미시 카운티의 보셀, 우딘빌, 켄모어 시와 주변 지역을 관할하며, 워싱턴 주에서 10번째로 큰 교육구이다.[209][210] 보셀 시 경계 내에는 고등학교 1개, 중학교 3개, 초등학교 8개를 포함하여 12개의 공립학교가 있다.[211][212] 보셀은 1885년에 자체 교육구를 설립했으며, 1959년 우딘빌 교육구와 합병하여 노스쇼어 교육구를 형성했다.[214][215]

보셀 지역에는 세다 파크 크리스찬 학교 캠퍼스, 프로비던스 클래시컬 크리스찬 학교, 시애틀 대교구에서 운영하는 세인트 브렌단 가톨릭 학교, 더 클리어워터 스쿨, 에버그린 아카데미, 워싱턴 예비 학교 등 여러 사립 학교도 있다.[219]

8. 1. 고등 교육

워싱턴 대학교 보텔(UW 보텔)은 워싱턴 대학교의 3개 캠퍼스 중 하나로, 1990년에 개교했다. 2019년 기준으로 6,000명의 학생이 재학 중이며, 이 중 약 30%가 스노호미시 카운티에 거주한다.[225][226] 1989년 주 정부에 의해 설립되었으며, 1990년 10월 캐니언 파크 오피스 빌딩에서 첫 수업을 시작했다.[227] 2000년 9월 현재의 캠퍼스가 개교했으며,[231] 2006년부터는 상위 학부 학교에서 4년제 기관으로 확장되었다.[233][234]

캐스케이디아 칼리지는 2년제 커뮤니티 칼리지로, 2019년에 3,000명 미만의 학생이 등록했다.[225] 1992년 주 정부는 UW 보텔과 함께 새로운 커뮤니티 칼리지를 설립할 것을 제안했고, 두 기관은 부지를 공유하기로 결정했다.[229][230] 2000년 9월 UW 보텔과 함께 현재의 캠퍼스가 개교했다.[231]

보텔 시청


보텔은 워싱턴 주의 코드 도시로, 시의회-행정관 정부를 채택하고 있다.[176] 시의회는 4년 임기의 무소속 광역 선거구에서 선출된 7명의 위원으로 구성되며, 임기는 교차 선거를 통해 치러진다. 시의회는 조례와 결의안을 통과시키고, 예산을 승인하며, 정책을 수립하고 문제를 심의한다. 시장과 부시장은 시의회 내에서 선출되며, 임기는 2년이다.[177][178] 시의 일상적인 업무는 시의회가 고용하고 8개 부서의 장을 임명하는 시 행정관이 관리한다.[178] 2022년부터 시 행정관은 카일 스타너트이다.[179]
