2. MCL35

MCL35는 2020년 2월 13일 맥라렌 테크놀로지 센터에서 공식 발표되었다.[377] 전년도에 합류한 기술 이사 제임스 키가 주도하여 개발한 첫 번째 머신이며, 다음 해부터 파워 유닛(PU)을 메르세데스로 변경하기 때문에 르노 PU를 탑재하는 마지막 머신이다.[377]

MCL35는 2020년과 2021년 두 해에 걸쳐 다양한 기술 사양을 선보였다.
2020년 (MCL35):2020년 2월 13일 맥라렌 테크놀로지 센터에서 공개된 MCL35는 제임스 키가 주도하여 개발한 첫 번째 머신이다.[377] 르노의 파워 유닛(르노 E-Tech 20)을 탑재한 마지막 모델이다.[377]
2021년 (MCL35M):코로나19 범유행으로 인해 2020년 사양의 차량이 2021년에도 유지되었지만, 맥라렌은 메르세데스 엔진을 사용하기로 계약하면서 국제 자동차 연맹(FIA)의 특별 허가를 받아 섀시를 수정했다.[29] 기어 박스는 자체 설계 및 제조를 계속했다.[31] MCL35M의 파워 유닛은 메르세데스 M12 E Performance이다.[377]

MCL35M은 모터 제너레이터 유닛(MGU)을 이용한 하이브리드 에너지 회생 시스템을 갖추고 있다. MGU-K는 크랭크 샤프트에, MGU-H는 터보차저에 연결되어 있다.[377]

트랜스미션은 탄소 섬유 복합재 케이스에 종방향으로 배치되었으며, 8단 전진 기어와 1단 후진 기어를 갖추고 있다. 유성 기어 구조에 멀티 플레이트 리미티드 슬립 클러치식 차동 기어가 적용되었다.

4. 1. 섀시

MCL35는 탄소 섬유 복합재 모노코크 구조로 제작되었다. 프론트 서스펜션은 탄소 섬유제 더블 위시본, 푸시로드, 토션 바, 댐퍼로 구성되어 있으며, 리어 서스펜션은 탄소 섬유제 더블 위시본, 풀로드, 토션 바, 댐퍼를 사용한다. 브레이크 시스템은 아케보노 브레이크 캘리퍼, 마스터 실린더, 그리고 "브레이크 바이 와이어" 시스템을 갖추고 있다. 스티어링은 랙 앤 피니언형 파워 스티어링 방식이며, 타이어는 피렐리 P-Zero, 휠은 엔케이 제품을 사용한다.

4. 2. 파워 유닛 (2020, MCL35)

2020년 2월 13일 맥라렌 테크놀로지 센터에서 맥라렌 MCL35가 공식 발표되었다.[377] 전년도에 합류한 기술 이사 제임스 키가 주도하여 개발한 첫 번째 머신이며, 다음 해부터 파워 유닛(PU)을 메르세데스로 변경하기 때문에 르노 PU를 탑재하는 마지막 머신이다.[377]

MCL35에 탑재된 파워 유닛은 르노 E-Tech 20이며, 다음과 같은 구성 요소를 가진다.

4. 3. 파워 유닛 (2021, MCL35M)

코로나19 범유행으로 인해 2020년 사양의 차량은 2021 시즌에도 크게 변경되지 않았지만, 맥라렌은 2021년에 메르세데스 엔진을 사용하기로 계약했기 때문에 국제 자동차 연맹(FIA)의 검사를 거쳐 섀시를 수정할 수 있는 특별 허가를 받았다.[29] 엔진을 교체했음에도 불구하고, 맥라렌은 기어 박스를 교체하지 않고 자체적으로 설계 및 제조를 계속했다.[31]
