옥시타니아

3. 역사

옥시타니아는 로마 시대에 갈리아 나르보넨시스라고 불렸다.^[120] 5세기 이후에는 셉티마니아 왕국(구 로마 제국 갈리아 나르보넨시스 → Septem Provinciae), 프로방스 왕국 등의 지방 세력이 옥시타니아를 통일하지 못하고, 교회, 수도원, 봉건 영주, 자유 도시 각각이 복잡한 충성 관계 속에서 다투었다.

서고트족과 부르군트족의 법률 제정 덕분에 초기 중세 시대 옥시타니아 사회는 북프랑스보다 로마법을 더 잘 유지했다.^[83] 11세기 중반부터 툴루즈, 몽펠리에, 아비뇽, 페르피냥 등의 대학교에서 로마법 대전 교육이 채택되어 옥시타니아에서 로마법 부흥을 촉진했다.

9세기부터 13세기까지 아키텐 공작, 푸아 백작, 툴루즈 백작, 아라곤 왕 등이 옥시타니아의 여러 영지를 두고 경쟁했다.^[120]

이 시대에 옥시탄 문학이 번성했다. 12세기와 13세기에는 트루바두르가 궁정 사랑 (''fin'amor'')을 발명했고, ''Lenga d'Òc''가 유럽의 지식인 사회에 퍼져나갔다. "Lenga d'Òc", "옥시탄", "옥시타니아"라는 용어는 13세기 말에 처음 등장했다. 1102년에는 툴루즈 백작 레몽 4세가 제1차 십자군 당시 트리폴리 백국을 세웠다. 트리폴리 백국에는 옥시타니아와 이탈리아에서 주민이 모여 옥어를 사용했으며, 옥시타니아의 식민지라고 할 수 있었다.

13세기의 알비 십자군 이후 프랑스 왕의 지배력이 강화되었고, 17세기에 완전히 프랑스 왕권에 편입되었다.^[120] 1539년 프랑수아 1세는 빌레르코트레 칙령으로 행정 언어를 프랑스어로 한정했다.^[121] 1789년 프랑스 혁명 당시 지중해 지역 자치와 오크어 부활 시도가 있었으나 자코뱅파의 반대로 좌절되었다.^[120]

19세기에 옥어 문학 부흥 운동이 일어났고, 프레데리크 미스트랄이 노벨 문학상을 수상했다.^[120] 그러나 1881년 쥘 페리 내각 시대부터 학교에서 오크어 사용이 금지되면서 오크어의 지위가 낮아졌다.^[122] 20세기 후반부터 오크어 보존 및 부흥 운동이 전개되고 있다.

4. 문화

옥시타니아는 오크어를 기반으로 한 독자적인 문화를 가지고 있다. 고등 중세 시대 트루바두르는 세련된 서정성으로 높이 평가받았으며, 아키텐 공작 기욤 9세와 베르트랑 드 본으로 대표된다. 이들의 영향은 유럽 전역으로 퍼져나갔다.^[80]

바로크 시대 옥시탄 문학은 가스코뉴에서 베아른 방언을 통해 부활했다. 앙리 4세가 베아른 방언을 사용했기 때문에 페 드 가로스와 아르노 드 살레트의 작품이 주목받았다. 툴루즈는 페레 고돌린의 시를 통해 "르네상스"의 중심지가 되었으나, 앙리 4세 사후 옥시탄 문학은 클레망 마로 등 지역 시인들이 프랑스어로 작품 활동을 하면서 쇠퇴기를 맞았다.

19세기 중반, 프레데릭 미스트랄과 펠리브리지는 옥시탄어 문학 부흥을 이끌었다. 미스트랄은 1904년 노벨 문학상을 수상했고, 윌리엄 보나파르트-와이스는 프로방스 방언으로 작품을 썼다.

1323년 설립된 아카데미아 델스 조크스 플로랄스는 옥시탄 시를 장려하는, 서구에서 가장 오래된 문학 기관 중 하나이다. 1945년 장 카수, 트리스탕 차라, 르네 나엘리 등은 "옥시탄 연구소(L'Institut d'Estudis Occitans)"를 설립하여 옥시타니아의 언어와 문화를 보존하고 발전시키고자 했다.

낭만주의 작곡가 가브리엘 포레와 데오다 드 세베라크는 옥시타니아 출신이다. 세베라크는 파리 유학 후 옥시타니아로 돌아와 지역 고유의 음악을 작품에 담아내려 했다.
