2009년 코펜하겐에서 열린 유엔 기후 변화 회의를 앞두고 발생한 기후연구단 이메일 논란(클라이미트게이트) 당시, 《워싱턴 타임스》는 사설에서 "조작된 과학이 드러난 이 사건은 지구 온난화에 대한 히스테리와 입증되지 않은 이론에 대처하기 위해 추진되고 있는 혼란스러운 정책에 대한 경각심을 불러일으켜야 한다"고 썼다.[105] 그러나 8개의 위원회가 이 논란을 조사했지만 사기나 과학적 비행의 증거는 발견하지 못했다.
2014년 《워싱턴 타임스》의 사설은 "지구 온난화 사기극"을 조롱하며 "지구 온도계는 15년 동안 변하지 않았다. 산불, 토네이도, 허리케인과 같은 '극단적인' 기상 현상은 정상 수준 또는 그 이하이다. 태평양 섬이 침수되지 않았다. 빙하가 너무 많아 북극곰이 축하하고 있다"고 주장했다.[107] 《워싱턴 타임스》는 이러한 주장을 뒷받침하는 블로그 게시글을 인용했지만, 폴리티팩트(PolitiFact)는 해당 게시글의 주장을 사실 확인한 결과 "완전 거짓"이라고 결론지었다.[107][108]
